One of the trinkets that I bought while I was in Kiev was a matryoshka doll, also known as a Russian nesting doll, it is a set of wooden dolls of decreasing size placed one inside another.
A set consists of a wooden figure which separates, top from bottom, to reveal a smaller figure inside, which has another figure inside of it, and so on.
Here is a photo of the ‘dolls’ in my set.
I think they’re lovely…and I have them displayed on my shelf next to a set that I painted a number of years ago (1994) of my own family.
The man is my husband Jim with his banjo, and me with a paintbrush and gardening hat, and my kids: Benjamin with a soccer ball, Clare singing and Stephen with his teddy bear. It was fun to paint them. I’m not sure who I would add to a set if I were to paint them today.
Anyway here’s your chance to design a set for yourself. and if you like your design enough, I’m sure you could go to Michael’s or Hobby Lobby and find a set of wooden dolls to paint.
Please send me a comment (and maybe a scan of your artwork) below and let me know how you’re doing with your project.
thanks, Rose
