I hope everyone’s September is going well.
I love the weather this time of year. The days aren’t as hot or muggy as August, and the evenings are great for building a fire in the backyard.
We drew a frog and then a cricket last week. I thought that a fun little critter to draw this week would be a turtle.
Around our house, we don’t usually see turtles. I remember when my kids were little they’d see them sometimes near the creek but, we don’t see them very often. I guess they’re around…just hiding or something.
Anyway, let’s draw this one…Remember to start with a whisper line.
Happy drawing!

Rose! That illustration is soo adorable. You are a very talented lady! My 4 year old daughter tried the frog last week. We cheated a bit and used tracing paper for each step. Is that allowed lol. Do you work solely with Photoshop to colour your illustrations?
Hi, Heather!
Thank you, you are so kind.
I do use Photoshop for a lot of things, but I color (most of the time) with good old fashioned Windsor Newton Water Colors. I love the sensation of the paint touching the paper! 🙂
I am so glad that your daughter was able to have some fun with the drawing lessons….I hope that you send a copy of her frog so I can post it.
We have to talk soon. okay?

I just love your illustrations. very impressive…I’ve been forwarding these along to me 11 yr. old daughter. She loves to draw and these posts are very helpful. Thanks!
Jonathan,
I am glad that she loves drawing, maybe she can send me a copy of one of her drawings to post here.
Thanks,
-Rose
That’s amazing and great illustration! I love turtles and I used to have them as pets. I am going to try your method of drawing. In fact my next door neighbor has a 6 years old I am going to show your method to him.
Gary, Thanks for stopping by!
I think turtles are cute, too. Have fun drawing (I’d love to see your finished artwork).
