While we were coloring, I was asked by one of my grandsons:
“How can I make GRAY in my picture without a gray crayon?”
Well, if you have a BLACK one & a WHITE one the answer is pretty simple. With this method, crayons (like colored pencils or most other coloring tools) can be mixed if you are careful. Follow these simple directions. I used colored pencils:
First I made a small rectangle to show you,
can you see my BLACK & WHITE colored pencils?
Then I started to fill in the rectangle with the black pencil,
but very lightly, almost with the side of the tip.
(using a WHISPER LINE almost)
Then I started at one end of the rectangle to make the black a little darker.
It’s best to add the color in layers…it’ll look better when it’s done.
See on the bottom third of the rectangle, how it’s even darker?
But, just a little, because I only added another layer of BLACK pencil over that part.
On that darker part, I added a little bit of WHITE pencil.
…you’ll see more on the next photo.
…and a little more of the white…
…you can see the gray part starting to show now, right?
…and another layer!!! …the top third is just the one layer of BLACK,
the second third is more layers of BLACK,
and the bottom third is both BLACK & WHITE layers….GRAY!
And you can do that with ANY two colors.
Like RED & YELLOW to make and orange color…or…Blue and Red to make a purple…the possibilities are endless!
have fun!
