I love trains!
My grandfather was a switchman working on the railroad, a long long time ago! I understand that he worked in the train yards and hooked the cars together or moved the tracking switches to put the train on different tracks.
I’m sure that I am oversimplifying it…and do not really understand…
Anyway, my mom and her siblings would talk about how much my grandfather enjoyed his job. Â I can imagine that it was very hard work, but I can see where it might be adventurous also.
Isn’t he cute, with his lunch pail and pipe.
This photo was taken in his back yard, probably when I was very little or maybe even before I was born.
I love my Grampa and I love trains!
I love the sounds, the rumbling motion, all of it! Â And the stories!!! Â Wow!
My mother was the oldest of four sisters and one brother, and  because their dad worked for the railroad, I guess they were able to travel the rails inexpensively…and the four girls must’ve done so frequently.
You know, I actually love to travel, to see new and exciting places…but, I do not like to travel in the squished seat of an airplane.
I think traveling on a huge steamer-ship or taking the train is so much more romantic, and exciting. It may take longer…but, there’s so much more to see…and it is so much more relaxed & comfortable. Â
I’m not one who can sit in one spot for hours on end…even watching TV or a movie…so DEFINITELY not in a squished airplane seat, where you can barely even get up to go to the bathroom!!!
Well, you’ll find (if you hang out with me for any length of time) that I really like trains enough to talk about them, draw them and enjoy travel on them!
I even live close enough to hear one every night as I fall asleep.
This week here is a coloring sheet that you can download and color with your kids.
Just click on the image below, download and print it out! Â Â Have fun! Â Â -Rose
I remember a really cute photo I took of you in the caboose of an old train sitting in a train museum in North East, PA! Could you create a coloring page of that?
