As you probably already know, we moved recently, and I’ve been slowly unpacking all of the extra boxes. I found this in an old box:
As you can see it’s been packed away for sometime, it’s pretty dusty! I’ll shine it up… but before I do…I thought that maybe we can do a similar project together.
This is from an elementary art class I used to teach…it was one of my samples.
It a fun, easy project –
Materials:
– Black Construction Paper
– Elmer’s or other White Glue
– Chalky Pastels
First let’s get our piece of black paper:
And let’s draw a super simple image – a circle:
You’ll take your bottle of glue and…
…slowly draw over all of your lines.
This is why it’s good to start with the simpler image…because it can become quite messy if you have too many details.
Let the glue dry thoroughly….overnight.
It’’ll look something like this…almost entirely black paper with your glue line being almost black also…so you can barely see it.
If you notice, I got some of the glue out of the circle and when we add the pastels, you’ll see that it won’t cover there. I suppose that this art-form is not very accurate.
Your finish may not be perfect. But, try this a few times to see what you can do with this process.
The paper will accept the pastels but it won’t stick on the dried glue. To fill in each section and make your colors bright and cheerful. Carefully wipe the chalk from the dried glue lines.
Now that you’re an expert, you can try this with any drawing…just start out with simple lines.

Have fun!
